I thought I talked a lot (especially when I write sentences in papers that end up being entire paragraphs on their own), but he can make sentences in Japanese go on for seven lines. Commas and "kedo"s and ~shi ~shis all over the place. I would have had this translated days ago if I didn't have to go back and reread his sentences over and over to make sure I got all that he was saying. Golf claps for Matsujun, everyone.

The best album "All The BEST! 1999-2009" was their first album to sell a million copies, they had their second dome tour, and now he'll be acting in the special drama "Wagaya no Rekishi."
Matsumoto Jun's latest interview immediately followed the photoshoot in the "Hidden Fortress."
This last live at Kokuritsu was on your birthday, were you at all moved by it, since it was on your birthday?
"That's right, because the fans that are always supporting us can communicate that to us directly at those types of places we feel that kind of anniversary atmosphere and because we fully renewed and became full of those feelings of thanks, I could happily accept my birthday2. It confirmed that being Arashi for these past 10 years was a good thing, so it was a really happy time."
But you're really fortunate, don't you think? A typhoon hit Tokyo head-on the very next day...
"It was raining on the 30st of August, though. Head-on (laughs)."
But it was good that it held off until the very end, right?
"That was while were thanking the audience, and although we all got sopping wet, everyone stayed through till the very end, so we were really happy about that."
Then after that, you still had a dome tour to do, since you customarily do dome tours, right?
"That doesn't mean we weren't super particular about the dome tour; rather, even for places to which we have gone or places to which we haven't until now, of course we want to try going to both. Actually, even to go to the places we did, we had to do some adjusting, bearing in mind that we had problems with our schedules, had to clear up various issues, and for this year the timing just wasn't right."
If you're able, would you like to also do a country-wide tour? [not just domes, but also smaller arenas]
"Yes. For dome tours, the fans that come give us their support and even though they cheer us on face-to-face, because everyone comes from a lot of different places, and since this was a special anniversary tour, we thought it would be good if, as much as we can, to convey our thanks to them as closely as possible."
While you were on tour, "All the BEST! 1999-2009" sold a million copies, right? As that was the first album of the year to sell a million copies, would you tell us how you felt when you got the news?
"I was really surprised, but honestly also happy. Selling over a million copies for the first time in ten years, I'm happy that we were able to commemorate with our complete best. Well, because more than a million copies is a really happy surprise."
Surprise?
"It was a surprise, frankly. That doesn't mean we were aiming for it. Even more than that, there are a lot of people who are honestly listening to it, and people who until now didn't have any interest in us but became interested, so more than the amount that we sold, that's what I'm happy about."
Looking at Kokuritsu, do you think Arashi is turning into a new Southern All-Stars?
"Oh no no, that's not it at all! (laughs)"
Does it seem like everyone's memories and Arashi's songs overlapped?
"As for the live at Kokuritsu, I think you're right; I felt the same. Those feelings were certainly strong. After that I felt like I still couldn't do or say anything. We had this anniversary tour because the people that came walked this road with us. So I think it's adding up, definitely. It probably wasn't easy for people to come and see us this time, because it was a special anniversary tour, but I think while they're thinking back on the time they spent at the concerts and saying, 'it was fun, huh?,' and so when I think about that kind of space, I think it's really heartwarming."
Singing all of your songs together with everyone at Kokuritsu, it seems like everyone's BGM in their memories is Arashi, and so from now on as well, in everyone's lives, I think everyone's life's BGM3 is Arashi.
"But I think that's a good thing. It's even like that with movies, and like with songs, I think people live vicariously through them. Because I think it's a good thing that people can be so deeply moved by songs and their personal experiences. That's why I think people have this switch that they only turn on for us, and so while the guests are guests, everyone wants to create this atmosphere, and I think that's very important. So that's why, when they tell us, 'that was so great!,' in all honesty, we're happy, and so they're happy, too. (laughs)."
5x10 is becoming your ultimate 'message song,'4 isn't it? Since you wrote the lyrics together.
"Yeah, that's right. Because we all put in the messages we wanted to convey to the fans, so being able to say everything we could, and because we couldn't help but to say everything we did. Being able to listen and feel that is great, I think. Because we put all of our feelings into that song."
In your ten years, you finally sold a million copies, and although I don't think you reached that place with your full power, you entered an even different gear, so it kind of feels like a fresh new start, doesn't it?5
"If that's the case, then we were really late bloomers! (laughs) We really did a lot of different things in these ten years, both good and bad. So to lump all that together, I feel like I can say 'yes!' to everything and move forward, and so I feel like someone is pushing me forward."
1. obviously, he's talking about his thirst for life, but this is also a play on the kanji in his name :3
2. probably his birthday usually isn't that big a thing, so having it at kokuritsu was pretty mega :)

I'm sure she'd be happy to help you! As long as she's not like my old friend who tried to jump out of my car when I told him I liked Arashi. My other Japanese friends have been much more understanding (and one even brings me Arashi stuff back from Japan all the time cos he's beautiful like that ♥ )

And he makes such an effort to interact with fans - not just wink-smile-take-off-your-shirt/grope-your-closest-bandmate interact, but understand-their-hearts-and-minds interact. He covers all corners of fanservice, as it were <3
Also, I love the BGM comment and the Southern All Stars comment cos Arashi is my life BGM at the mo, and "All the Best!" and SAS's "Umi no Yeah!!!" album are the only "real" Japanese CDs I have XD And lol at the kanji pun - I totally spotted that before I read the note at the bottom. Oh Jun. lol.

I think that's really show how much the fans love Arashi. Even in the rain they still keep going until the end of the concert. That's really great :D
Jun must be really happy to have his birthday on the same day as the concertin Kokurisu ^^ He got to celebrate his birthday with all the fans and I'm sure the fans must be really happy too. I mean it's not usually happen to get to celebrate members's birthday during the concert tour, right? It would feel like you actually celebrate his birthday and say happy birthday to him directly :D
Their 5x10 All the best album become a biggest hit of the year, and that's... have to congratulate to Arashi ne to be able to get more than a miilion copy sellers. I'm so happy with Arashi ^^
