And we're done with another pamphlet! I think I got through this in 90 minutes; a new record :D Thanks for being easy to understand, Okada. Any suggestions on what I move onto next?
Concerts are a place where can show off ourselves "now."
We've produced this program so as to make this a good concert. That's our role. What gets me most excited is the moment when I'm all really aware of the other members!
Concerts for us are a place where we're able to show off ourselves "now." Especially on this tour, we've younger artists working with us as our production staff, so from the set and to the films, I'm expecting this will have a totally different feel from our last tour. And because it's been about a year and a half since our last tour, I'm sure there are a lot of fans who've been waiting for us. So for them, I want to make this a concert that will make them really happy.
Putting together this concert, I think our role is to plan it out beforehand. Up until now, we've sort of had that feeling of our schedule being like, "if we don't decide this by this time, then the show will decrease in quality," and that's been about the core of our planning. We decide quickly on the things we have to decide quickly, and conversely have been staying quiet about the things it would be fine to take our time on, and that's the sort of thing we've been keeping in mind. When it comes to making the fans happy, we all of course understand that doing concerts is the best thing.
For all of us, we all have different ways of thinking. We think about the songs that will make up the concert, and about their flow, and that sort of thing. For example, if we do one song and it's like "I really wanna dance in this one!," and if we take the flow of the songs seriously, someone will be like, "up to that point, wouldn't it be better to not dance our faces off?", so it's all really varied (laughs). Particularly with the songs on our new album, we all have varying images of what each song is or should be, and we're really fussy about the various things we've produced. And if we can draw that out, I think we'll get a good balance... then, if we can have the member who produced it really bring out their vision of the song ... and all that. That's the theme we've built this concert on. It's just, when it comes to the steps for organizing things and performing them, there are also instances where we can't really express our opinions. we'll propose things like, "what about this? This is totally close to what you imagined, yeah?", or "wouldn't it be good to move toward using a sound generator here?" But, we'll propose a lot of different ideas, but basically we're taking in all of our opinions. So with that, V6 is a group that tries to be cool, and we goof around, and we bring in different elements, and we sing, we can dance, we can produce... and we're people who can "show that off" when we do concerts. I want to treasure that sort of sensation.
When we all meet together... there's a lot we can't really decide on (laughs). When you're putting stuff together, and you have six people who are equals, it's difficult to decide things when people have differing opinions. If, for example, someone took one viewpoint, a person above them could say, "we're doing this!" and decide to make it and that might be good. When the six of us are together and we voice our varied opinions, as equals, it'll end up taking a lot of time. It'll be like, "anyone against it? If not, we're doing it." When it comes to concerts, there's a lot of places where we'll exchange how we think or how we feel about something, and it's totally different than when we're doing our own acting work, and it'll feel sort of like birth pangs. Sometimes, it'll be like, "come on, this is how I want to do it!" and you'll feel frustrated when the members are against it. What stirs up those feelings is definitely that we've been together as V6 for 18 years, and those things will come out, and maybe it's depending on yourself or on the members. And the only thing that can really bring out those sorts of feelings is putting together a concert ... probably, yeah?
On this tour, it's not simply that the fans have known a lot of our singles for forever, but rather that we want to do all the songs from our album, "Oh! My! Goodness!" But, there are also people who don't yet completely know all the songs on our album. So, we want to make this a show that those people can also enjoy, one that brings together production and dancing. And for that, we've armed ourselves with "3-D projection mapping" to display images on the walls and stuff of the set. This time, we got the person who created 3-D projection mapping to work with us, and I feel like this is probably something we never could have produced before now. Our sets and stuff have really changed quite a bit. I don't know how the fans are going to take it, but when they enter the venue before the curtain opens, they'll feel like the feel of the stage is totally different, and if they can get really excited, all "what's gonna happen?" or "what sort of performance will they do with this kind of set?," then we'll be really happy.
When it comes to my mental state before taking the stage... it's hard to represent it in words, but it's sort of a soft sensation. Even when it comes to my position in the tour, my mental state has changed, and when we put together a tour with everything we have, I think a lot about "will the fans enjoy this?" and "will I get the timing in this performance?" For sure, making things that will definitely make people happy is a thing we have to do. Meeting the fans face-to-face, singing, dancing, being moved, making us smile -- that's not a thing we're going to be able to do forever, and it's sort of a thing we have to deal with and why we put our feelings into each and every show.
When it comes to what makes me excited in concerts, for me it's "when I'm really aware of the other members." If I compare it to soccer, it's kind of like when you do a "no-look pass" to someone (laughs). Not just someone to someone else, but all of us in that moment will understand, like, "here it comes!" For example, it's like "I know what the person most opposite me is doing!"1 I don't think that sort of feeling is a one-way street. We can't exactly stare at one another, but while I'm also aware of all the fans, I'm also dancing around and really interested in the other members. And when I can feel that sort of thing, that's something I absolutely want to convey to the fans, and those moments make me really happy.
What I'm looking forward to with this tour that's taking us all over the country is being able to get close to the fans. If we didn't have them, we wouldn't be able to directly meet the people who support us. I'm really grateful for them. Meeting our fans, it's partly a back to basics feeling, but it's also one that makes me feel like "I'm gonna keep doing my best!" And also, we've all got our own solo work we're doing, concerts are one of the things we do all together as one, so it's a precious place. So while I'm properly digesting each and every show around the country, I want to treasure them.
. notes .
01. This one doesn't really need explanation I don't think, but it gave me and others enough trouble that I thought I'd add this just in case. It's like, he's talking about how he sort of knows what they're doing and can feel them and see them out of the corner of his eye but he can't/doesn't need to stare at them, and yeah.
