ABOUT Okada is a difficult person for me to write about because he's just so complex and I feel like that doesn't get the attention it deserves in fandom. Most times people look at him and see this really cool, composed dude, and that's not wrong, but it's also not entirely right, either. Okada is a hard-worker, and he's a great student of acting and film and stuff, but he's also sort of not comfortable with his fame. He's an introvert, so even when V6 are on stage, you don't see him talk as much as the others. But with V6, it's also a really special place and special family for him, but we'll get to that later. Back to being an introvert: he doesn't like talking that much. He didn't like talking in school and so didn't really like going. For the first six years V6 were together, he figured they'd only be around about that long, so he'd figured he would bail around the 6th year, quit, and go be a high school history teacher. Being in V6 was hard on everyone but especially on Okada. As part of J&A's strategy to expand, Okada was pulled from the Kansai when he was still really new to the agency and brought to Tokyo. He talks about how his mom was really supportive and wanted it for him, so he worked really hard, but it sucked for him. He didn't really know anyone and didn't really know how anything worked, and then after less than a year in the agency, he's in a super popular group and running himself ragged while also going to school. As the youngest, he was seen as the pet for the longest time, and he's talked on SCP (his 2009 SP) about how he substituted V6 as his family. In the 10th anniversay GeI SP, he talked about how he read a book where it said that when you die, if five people remember your name, your life had value" and that the other members of V6 are probably those five people and are a huge presence in his life. Like, again, just think about how long he's been in V6: over half his life. It wasn't really until he got more into acting that he found something about which he was really passionate and that he really enjoyed, which is why he's pretty much the most visible member of V6. And he's a really great actor, but he does sort of get typecast and it's a shame. He's a goofball and wants to do more comedy but he gets put into dramas as the cool, composed badass dude who could kill you eight ways before you hit the ground. He doesn't exactly embody the Kansai guy stereotype, but he is a big jokester and plays elaborate pranks. And when I say elaborate pranks, I mean jfc (he's such a Scorpio, my god). On the 2004.05.18 episode of Gakkou e Ikou, Okada revealed one of his greatest pranks ever. He literally sent Go all the way to Thailand just to make him cry. He wanted to see Go cry on TV and orchestrated this elaborate prank just for that with the help of the Gakkou e Ikou staff. Like. Y'all. They made up a fake TV show and everything and had him learn how to ride elephants and shit and just watch it. Also, on Mach V6, he had a little skit, "Hamecchingu Junichi," where he'd put on a stupid face and go around and punk everyone on the set. He's such a goofus. He's really good at piano and guitar. He's played piano in some of his solos and usually plays guitar on his own, along with playing for V6 songs. He and Inocchi make up songs a lot because they're doofuses. V6 is a space that allows Okada to open up, come out of his shell, and show every side of himself. He's come up with a lot of good ideas for V6, like the idea to build a school in Cambodia. The other members thought he was aiming too high, but he explained that it would be a good thing if they, as a show about going to school, could build a school, that would be really good. Inocchi just so happened to have an old teacher who was in Cambodia and they got the whole thing together and built a fucking school. All from a rando idea Okada threw out there. He's really serious and has really grown more into his own. He's gotten more bold, especially in V6, with voicing his opinion. In the beginning, he just sort of went along with Maa-kun when Maa-kun would yell (even while he wondered what the fuck Maa-kun's deal was) but as the years went on, he spoke up more and the group has really come together to be a group of equals. Because of shows/movies like "SP," he's gotten really good at martial arts and has a really high pain tolerance. So the "guy who could kill you 8 ways before you hit the ground" image is pretty true to life. He's talked a lot, and so has Ken, about how he's worked really hard to get good at stuff. Ken's said Go is kind of a genius with things, especially dance, whereas Okada has to work really hard to be good at it. Yeah, he was Shonen Okada and can learn things really quickly and somehow manage to do everything they put in front of him, even basically walking on water, but he still has to work hard at everything else. Like, for real. He fucked up in the "MUSIC FOR THE PEOPLE" PV but godammit, he's gone on and kept trying. He's not really the type to do things at his own pace, but sometimes he just screws off. Like 1999.09.25 Tetsuwan DASH, Kamisen were facing off with Gussan and Taichi to see how far they could get on 3000 yen and Okada was just like "fuck it." First he followed Taichi, then found a little tram that went up a ropeway, and then ended up half-lost in the woods and had to climb a mountain. He's really a big doofus. He also likes busses and will sometimes just ride them around because "I just kinda like them" and he doesn't really have a reason beyond that. He dated Aoi Yu for a long time but apparently they broke up because she was cheating. There's also the accusation from Tanaka Sousuke (who co-starred with Go in "Kinkakuji" and who spent his Saturday night in NYC tweeting about how much he hates Korean media (man, you should have just come out to karaoke with us)) that his then-wife, Miyazaki Aoi, was cheating on him with Okada. So there's that. All semi-joking aside, Okada is serious and loves his doggies (he has/had? poodles, and a French Bulldog named Satsuma) and loves history. This is why he's hosting "The Profiler" and it's great because YEAH HISTORY. He loves to hike and travel and sometimes shows that off in his magazine photoshoots. HE LOVES PHOTOGRAPHY AND TAKES THE GREATEST PICTURES OF V6 but he kind of hates them because he likes taking a certain type of photo and V6 just like acting like doofs to mess him up and throw him off his game. He's gotten numerous awards for his acting. He's also the spokesperson for the theme park in his hometown and gets to be a stupid doof in campaign ads and on national TV and get paid for it. Okada is great. Get Okada more comedy roles and show off all sides of him 2015. RELATIONSHIPS

Date: 2015-02-10 05:38 pm (UTC)I love to watch Masa and Okada together, it's kind of awkward sometimes but I think they're similar in a lot of ways, the hating being embarrassed parts (and easily being so) is just one of them.
