The Queen of Procrastination is back, doing what she does best. Today, I bring you Arashi's "Dear Snow" J-web mail. Thanks for the Japanese go, as always, to anj
Edit: somehow my first two lines got cut out, so hang on Edited with the edited version that somehow didn't paste the first time and reminds me why I always proofread like, 60 times before I post D; (also, hurf durf word correction. don't mind me, just being dyslexic as usu)
N: Today's the release day for our single, "Dear Snow!" So we're gonna do a round table-type discussion thing about it for you~
S: I knew this song was a good one the first time I heard it. We've had bright songs with a faster tempos of late, but this is one of those songs that strangely touches your heart.
A: For sure! And the lyrics were easy to learn, too!
M: It's a little different than the songs we've sung up till now, yeah? We don't really have many wintery songs.
N: The "snow" part of it really comes across, too.
M: Being all "it's winter!" it's like a new world; I love that! Then I was like, it's the theme song for "Ooku," so I wonder what it'll be like? The lyrics talk about self-sacrifice in parts...
S: Cos it's a movie about giving your life, yeah?
N: No it isn't! It's not a movie about giving your life (laugh)
M: Is it a love story?
N: You could say that, and I guess it wouldn't technically be wrong. I hope everyone enjoys the male-female role-reversal of "Ooku!" Actually, when I was watching the movie and it hit me that it was the Arashi song playing, I felt really great.
A: And I love the shoot we did for the jacket!! Leader's outfit is so friggin cool!
N: Like how?
S: Like a fashionable zashiki-warashi, right?1
All: (laughs)
O: It's fresh, right?
A: Yeah! You're all like, a stylish Leader! I wish I could pay attention to that kind of thing, too.
M: And then we set a record by doing the video clip and making-of all at once!
A: That was the first time we did that, huh? It was like, while the song was playing, the photos were flowing2, too.
S: And there was a rare confrontation scene between Ohno-san and Ninomiya-san (laughs)
N: That was for the pictures!
O: Oooh yeah! We did that, huh.
M: That picture was the best (laughs)
O: I was all "I'm excited for this!" (laughs) But the video shoot itself was... hot.
M: Trying to do a winter scene in the summer (laughs).
A: But, the real punch is at the end! The peaceful feeling and stylish cap was interesting, huh?
N: It's high-class (laughs)
M: You can really hear Nino this time!
S: Right? Then people will get all curious about "Ooku," like, "ooh, I wonder how it is?"
A: Hurry and go watch the movie, y'all!
S: Seriously, from where I'm sitting, I want everyone to enjoy the movie!
All: Huh?
N: So my standpoint is...
S: I feel exactly the same as Nino! (laughs)
N: Thank you! Aaah... seasonal songs are nice, huh? We can take them in slowly but surely as we listen to them, I think.
O: It's autumn-ish!
M: Wha-- autumn? It's a winter song, though...
O: It's got that sort of fall feeling to it...
A: Then it's our fall-winter collection! (laughs) I want all of you to listen to it seriously and take it all in!
. notes .
1. The reader's digest version is that it's a prankster spirit of a little kid that has red hair or some shit. Like Peeves, basically. If you care, you can learn you more about it on ye olde Wikipedia. Yeah, I totally had to look it up, too.
2. He technically uses the same kanji here, both of which mean "flowing," but saying "the song was flowing" just felt off. But there was a little point/pun here!
