Another one I meant to have up days ago, but with it being Golden Week here and most of my office gone, I'm basically doing the work of four people. So, not really much time for translation
I want this concert to make you feel "this is the current, real V6"
"Concerts are the one place where we can really show our real selves. They're special places. Taking a step back, there's room for giving off a more adult feeling in our staging, which is the ideal. Come closer to it!"
We didn't get to do a tour last year, in that time, I really looked forward to this one. Concerts are incomparable... Concerts and plays are both live events, so we can get close to the audience, and like an actor, we take the stage, but other than that, they're completely different. For sure, concerts are... the one place where we can really show our real selves. I have two basic feelings about concerts. The first is that they're "special places." They're where you get sensations you can't get anywhere else in your daily life. This time, too, with the costumes and the lighting, and the look of the stage, I want to give off feelings you can only get when you're at a concert, and I would be happy if the audience felt those. The other thing is, I want to "show off the current, real V6." What I mean by that is, this is a concert where each member wants to show off "who they are."
This tour, we're showing off our album, "Oh! My! Goodness!" that contains songs each member produced. In the concerts we've done up until now, I think we've been seen as one "lump,"1 but I think this time, it will be even more apparent that we're made up of different members. Our personalities will all come out...
We've become an adult group, so this time, I wanted to try to take a step back and give ourselves a bit of breathing room. When we debuted, we burst onto the scene and basically ran on fumes. Of course, that was the only thing we could have done at the time. Now, it's like we're able to do dances we couldn't do back then... And if that's the case, then now is the manifestation of that... we know the steps, but it's not just all dancing, and I cant show that off. Of course, we'll charm you with each and every point! is how we think, so taking a step back, making the concert more adult is our ideal. That's why, with this concert -- of course, the way we sing and dance are important, but I'd also like to try and incorporate those things in this time.
Of course, we're also doing the song I produced, "Maybe." It's a simple song, so there are a number of ways we could do it. We could dance, and we could just sing it, and we could incorporate the set and special videos into the performance, which of course we have. I'd like everyone to look forward to the finished product when we do it. We'll also be doing a song called "FLASH BACK" for the first time.
With our concerts, we take the different ideas from the six of us and put them together into one show, and that's how we always do it. In our other work, there aren't many times when we get to use all our power to put it together, so it's a precious place for us. To be honest, we all have different ideas about things, and when we're talking out our ideas, there's a difficult and painful side to it as well. I can't always tell everyone all my ideas, and it gets stressful when your ideas are out of sync with another member's. But we're rewarded when it all comes together in concert. There's a sense of accomplishment, so I wonder if we'll be able to keep on doing it like that. I think it's a really good thing to come into conflict with the other members. Even if we don't do things my way, or they don't latch onto my ideas, there's meaning for me in just saying "this is what I think."
Of course, there's trial and error in coming to decisions like this. For a period of time, I was really concerned with wondering "what do the staff around V6 want?" At that time, I was just holding onto the opinions of those around me, so getting started... when I think about it now, I think that was just a really naive way of thinking. I really realized it after I started doing plays by myself. You get a lot of people together as actors to do a play, right? Nothing can happen if you're there and you're just on the defensive. I had to leave myself behind, because you have to work with people; you just can't ignore them. What plays mean to me is coming together with other people for a match2 on the stage. I have a lot of feelings about getting to train and do that...
Becoming a stronger me there and then returning to the group, I feel like there was oddly kind of a new feel to everything. And it wasn't just like that for me; I felt like that was the case for everyone. We've been together for 18 years, and just seeing the other members, we understand that "ah, this is a great job." We talk about different things than we did before, and same for the things we do. So in that way, having these jobs ourselves being able to pull the other members along with us, I feel like that also has a really great influence on our concerts.
During concerts, the audience's reactions are a huge part of it. Calling out to us, waving, and locking eyes; we really feel that gaze. We think a lot about how the fans are going to react when it comes time for the concert. It's really vital for us as V6 to get close to our fans. Like at Yoyogi, where we have the walkway up around the top, that's only at our concerts. We're really overjoyed to see the joy on the fans' faces when we get so close it feels like we'll touch each other. Some people might be thinking "but it's not just concerts, right?" I also feel like I want to make people who come to see our shows and performances happy. In our concerts back in the day, during the interludes, it just felt like we'd pop out and dash to the outer parts of the concert hall. but now, having thought a lot about a lot of things, more than just exchanging opinions, it's like "this time, we'll do this!" and like think of a fun way to play around, and I think that's great. Like when we debuted, I wouldn't think of anything and then we wouldn't do anything, but now it's like "I thought about doing this and then I didn't do anything." Like I said before, "we know the steps, but it's not just all dancing" and "we can do that, but let's just try to be simple when we play around" -- that's what I mean. Thinking about a lot of things, talking them over thoroughy with the members, it's like it's great that that adds to the thickness of our bond as a group3.
There's one more thing with this tour, and it's soemthing I feel like I want to change. After we're done with preparations about an hour before the show, I try to get in prime condition. I can't really soak it all in, and I find it hard to prepare myself emotionally. But being with the other members in the dressing room who are all getting their preparations done, I was like "wouldn't it be loud and annoying?!" But that's why this year, I've decided I want to try and be more relaxed when I prepare for a show (laughs).
. notes .
01. He actually uses "塊 (katamari)" here instead of the loanword グループ (group) like he did earlier in the sentence or like he does/most people normally do when talking about groups/V6 in general.
02. Literally a match/game that one would win or lose.
03. He actually just says "group's thickness" here but given the context, he's basically talking about their bond and how close they are and all that, so I've added that in.
